My Rating: 4.5 starsA Red envelope and creamy white paper, an invitation to Cupid’s Café, but for what? A romantic blind date or a return of a nightmare from Liv’s past? With her best friend riding shotgun, police badge in hand, Live would soon discover that Fate has a way of giving love a second chance to grow. Live never expected her date to be Zane, her brother’s ex-best friend, the off-limits guy she had fallen for all those years ago, the guy who fell off the face of the earth, never to be seen again…until now.The years have made both Liv and Zane sadder, but wiser people, a little battered, bruised and tarnished, but one thing hadn’t changed, their feelings for each other. Is it possible for each of them to find their way through the pain and horrors of the past? Can they become the support each of them needs to learn to live again?Katherine McIntyre’s CAPTURED MEMORIES is a second-chance romance that brings more to the table than hearts and flowers. It brings a second chance for two lost and damaged souls to re-kindle a love for life and hope for a better future as long as they have the one person who always made them want to be better, the person who made them whole, the person who owned their heart.Emotionally charged, this love story makes readers believe in the miracle of love and its ability to heal the most wretched of souls! Really, who else could see beyond your mistakes and flaws to the person you really are, except the one who loves you? Ms. McIntyre’s tale has both the bitter and the sweet as we find ourselves witnessing two characters who find love just when they needed it most!I received this copy from the author. Captivating Romance! My very first book by Katherine McIntyre and I will absolutely positively be reading more of her books! How have I not known about this author? The writing is amazing! I could picture every moment of Olivia and Zane’s story in my head like I was right there, with them every step of the way. What a really fantastic storyline! So moving! Zane is the ultimate bad boy. Gorgeous, tall, tatted, bearded and oh by the way, this dark bad boy can cook!! Holy hot smokes I'm in love!! Zane has so much damage that goes way beyond normal "baggage" but he's lovable, relatable and redeemable, not the typical bad boy jerk… Zane is a good guy to his core, he just doesn't look so good on paper right now. Zane is the one that got away for Olivia, after an invitation to Cupids Cafe has her “bumping” into Zane after so many years is like the miracle she needs to keep on living, changing her life forever ...Only Liv has her own painful damage, one that could keep her from being with Zane in so many ways. Can they really catch that elusive break and get a fresh start, a new beginning in spite of all their triggers... I'm not sure if this is a "second chance at romance" story or a "best-friend's sister is off limits" story, or both, but honestly is doesn't matter, it's such a wonderfully emotional read on so many levels! Zane and Olivia’s passion, their pain, their struggles, their hardships, their strength to overcome their pasts and to embrace a hope filled tomorrow together, just captivated me all the way through.Captured Memories did just that… captured me completely in this heartbreaking-heartwarming love story, page after wonderful page! I'm so happy I got to read this! **I was gifted a copy of this book by the author for a review**

There is an cleaver creativity surrounding the way this author has tailored the characters in this book, she gave two characters who had a way to go when it came to being all they could be the opportunity to discover not just themselves but each other. I thought both Liv and Zane were both interesting in their own right, they each had a story to tell and the author gave them both the opportunity to fill in the blanks…but was it enough?Liv has always known that she had feelings for Zane and despite the fact that she hasn’t seen him for so long those feelings have not diminished but because of the events of her past she has never really been in a position to act on not only those feelings but any, so could she finally get her happy ever after or will her chance with Zane slip past her?Well, I hoped not and not only for Liv’s sake but also Zane’s because she was the tonic he needed to level out his life, which from the outside he seemed like he was just keeping a handle on.But would they make the perfect pair or was what they had going to suffocate the pair of them?I loved the characters, Zane especially spoke to me in a way I hadn’t anticipated, yes he was the ultimate bad boy but he wasn’t willing to let that define him, he really did want more for himself, his tragic past did everything it could to keep him on the defensive but it was obvious that this was a good guy that just needed not only a break in life but someone to call his own…I had my fingers crossed that it would be Liv because if ever a woman needed her man, the one her soul was set on it was her.I thought the author packed this with a level of intense emotion that was beyond what I had anticipated. The depth of feeling, the pain they experienced and the inner strength they exhibited was all brought to bear with a touch that was simply magnificent.Totally captivating!

Captured Memories is the third installment in a multi-author series about a mystical café called Cupid’s Café. It is from this café that invitations are sent out to individuals who need it most. The invitations go out to two people who are broken or hurting in some way and someone feels that together they would be whole. They are given an invitation but it is up to them to accept and once they get to the café it is up to them to pursue the opportunity that has been placed before them. Sometimes they meet a stranger, sometimes they are an unlikely acquaintance but in this book, Captured Memories, it is a second chance romance that the characters are offered.Liv Morozov was the baby sister to Zane Parata’s best friend so for the longest time she was completely off limits, until the one night she wasn’t. Zane and Liv explored what could have been for one night but then Zane was gone without a trace and Liv’s brother would give her no details as to what happened. Liv went on with life, went to college, made friends, and then one night her life was changed forever. After dropping out of college, Liv picked up the pieces of her life with the help of her best friend and started to pursue her life’s passion of photography but her scars still remained.Zane came from a broken home and his only bright spot in life was his best friend and Liv. They were all the good Zane had going for him until one night when everything changed. After that night, his best friend refused to have anything to do with him and since then he has been struggling with alcoholism and staying sober day to day. He has picked up his life and has been working as a chef at a restaurant for a while now but the one thing he does not mess with is personal relationships. No matter how lonely he feels at times, he knows that no one would be interested in the damaged goods that is Zane Parata. Both Zane and Liv received invitations to Cupid’s Café and they both decided to go for their own reasons which had nothing to do with making a connection. What they did not expect was to see each other after ten years and it felt as if nothing had changed between them. They were both broken in their own ways but when life gives you a second chance that you always wished for, you grab a hold of it with both hands. Although Zane took some convincing at the start, but Liv was not one to give up. Liv and Zane may be broken but if they gave it a chance maybe they could have their happily ever after?I am a fan of second chance romances for the most part and Captured Memories was a swoon worthy romance. Both characters from this story were unique and quirky and I loved that about them. They were also gritty, worn, and still hopeful. They both had their secrets and scars that had to come out into the open before they could work on a relationship but they also both wanted the future that was in front of them as well. Captured Memories was a sweet addition to the Cupid’s Café series and I highly recommend reading this book and series! This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Author, Katherine McIntyre. I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the third book in the series, although they can be read as a stand alone. This story is about Liv and Zane and the mysterious invitation from Cupid's cafe. Liv has had a complicated life since she last seen Zane, she was love with him even when she was younger. Some may have had a school crush but deep down I think Liv knew it was more. Liv suffered a tragedy that killed a bit of her and left her unable to start a new relationship with anyone. She tried but it never took. Until Zane. Zane has seen the bad things of life and it's left him with a roll of things he has to keep in check in order to keep the life he wants. Liv and Zane found each other again and will they compliment each other and live happily ever after or will they completely destroy what is left of the other?Find out in this book!Book Blurb:An invitation to Cupid’s Café will change your life. Captured Memories is a beautifully written, second-chance romance. There's a lot of story packed into this novella length read and I found it both captivating and compelling. Both Zane and Liv are dealing with some pretty heavy issues and while their individual stories will break your heart, the strength they find in each other will warm it. Liv and Zane's love story is both sweet and steamy. It's the story of two people who find their own inner strength as well as each being a rock for the other, but it's also the tale of two people living through and dealing with the fallout of trauma and coming through that darkness to find hope, love, and happily ever after.I have to add that I started this book at bedtime, with the intention of reading a couple of chapters before heading off to dreamland. Before I knew it, I was turning the last page because I absolutely couldn't stop reading this fascinating story. The title is perfect for this one because it certainly captivated this reader.

Captured Memories is my very first Katherine McIntyre novel, and it did not disappoint! I was truly captured and captivated from the very start. The characters are so read and flawed, and believable.I would call this story a second chance - it was written in a way that I've never really read though. Zane is the ultimate book boyfriend and due to bad decisions in his younger life, he missed out on an opportunity to be with Liv then; but due to fate and serendipity, they have another chance to see what might happen. Their attraction was real, palpable, and honest. I loved their romance from the start and rooted for them until the very end.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinions.

I was lucky enough to get a chance to beta read this book, and I have to say that although contemporary romance is not my thing normally I really loved this story. The angle of having people with serious faults finding a second chance was something really beautiful, and real. Just the concept of this series is something special, and I think if you give them a read you will find that in all of them. This will be staying on my shelf!

Actual Rating: 4.5**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**Two battered people find strength in each other.Zane is no one's hero. After spending some time in jail and working tirelessly to kick his addiction to alcohol, he's finally gaining traction in his life. But he still knows that his chances of marriage and a white-picket fence are practically nonexistent. He wouldn't saddle some poor woman with his baggage and uncertain future. Fortunately for him, fate hasn't given up on him just yet.Liv is stunned to find her brother's ex-best-friend at the cafe she's been invited to. She hasn't seen him in years and he seems to be just as surprised to see her too. However, Zane has hardened over the years and his past appears to be just as haunting as her own. Just when she thinks she might have scared him off for good, he comes back for more. Maybe they can fight their demons together and finally find some semblance of happiness. As always, I love this author's writing and ability to weave a complex story in an easy way. This particular book was different from most of the stories I've read by her since it was contemporary romance. I fell in love with her writing through her paranormal romance series and I think she writes contemporary just as well.I could really connect with both characters and see their struggle. Even if you've never known someone who suffers from alcohol addiction or has been sexually assaulted, I think this story is just raw enough for you to understand their situation and how it still affects their daily lives, but still wouldn't bother someone who is triggered by either of these themes. It was done really well.As for the romance, I could feel our couple's chemistry from their first scene together. They do have a history with each other which gives them a sense of familiarity right off the bat. But they still have to work for it. The love scenes were steamy and plentiful. I can't believe how quickly I flew through this book and I enjoyed every minute. The one thing I do wish we had gotten was more of an explanation about the Cupid's Cafe and the mysterious letters sent. I wanted to understand if it was something otherworldly that brought our couple back together or if it was really Cupid pulling the strings and using the cafe as a cover. I also wonder about the man who harmed Liv, since she seemed to be expecting him to pop up somewhere. Was he still in the picture or was she just paranoid? I was left wondering. In closing...The other books in this series look interesting too. I might have to check them out. 4.5 suns!Full review on blog: https://uptildawnbookblog.blogspot.com/2017/10/review-captured-memories-by-katherine.html

To say Zane has had a hard time would be putting it mildly. Thanks to his abusive father, his life turned to shit when he was just a child, and the only sunshine in his otherwise dreary days was Liv. Her and her brother were his best friends. All that changed in just one night.Fighting his constant urges to dive into the nearest bottle of Jack Daniels, or anything else with just a little “proof” dominates Zane, until the sassy, spunky Liv pops back into his life. She gives his something else, something better, to think about. To do. 🙂Liv’s life hasn’t always been rainbows and kittens either. One dreadful night changed her life and ruined her, almost beyond repair. Zane was that ever-present, loyal force that she’d never been able to shake. She loved him then, she loves him now.McIntyre really knows how to turn a phrase, and her vivid descriptions pull readers right into the middle of each scene. All of my senses were involved, and that’s no easy feat. Kudos and more kudos!Liv and Zane shared a history, so their’s was not an instant love match. However, I do wish there had been a little bit more to the relationship re-developement, as I’d like to call it. They’d been so young their first time around, and although they’d understood each other better than anyone else, they hadn’t seen each other in 10 years, so a little more rekindling would’ve been welcomed. However….Don’t let that last statement of mine throw you off or make you second-guess reading this novel. For lack of a better, more-fitting term, it’s really good. Although I could see this story being stretched out a little longer, McIntyre did an excellent job of addressing tough situations in fewer pages. She doesn’t skim over the topics or make them seem lighter than they are. Truths are hard, life happens realistically, and each character has some growing to do, which made me love them even more.Fire up that ereader (or get a printed copy), grab your favorite snack, and find a comfy place to sit.

Captured Memories by Katherine McIntyre is a feel-good romance about two people looking for love and acceptance–both from others as well as themselves. The characters are well-written and relatable.McIntyre uses fairly flowery prose, on occasion, which doesn’t always fit the contemporary setting. On top of that, the descriptors are really repetitive. However, neither of these things detracts from the overall story too much. Occasionally, I found myself rolling my eyes or skipping over some of the more distracting parts, but it didn’t seem to really intrude on my understanding of the story. The thing that McIntyre does REALLY well that brings this book from a 3-star to a 4-star is her handling of the traumatic and tragic pasts and presents of the characters. I want to give her kudos for speaking out against victim-blaming and shaming the people who do nothing against “guy talk” that is abusive or recounts abusive behaviors. THANK YOU! Also, the reactions of Livs regarding certain positions and movements, the understanding of the triggering effects of smells…it is all an extremely realistic and in-depth look into how a victim of rape would react moving forward in her life. The only things I’m sad to see is that there is no mention of counseling to help in Livs moving forward.Zane’s alcoholic past is also dealt with in a real and unapologetic manner. His self-loathing is heart-breaking and his struggle is always present in the book. Rarely, do you see an author devote that much time to the flaws of their characters, but McIntyre does. She does it so well, you begin to see the truth of alcoholics…that the struggle is always there, even if they are showing a face that says it’s not.Overall, this was a pleasant read and I really fell in love with the characters and their struggle to accept themselves. The issues with friends and family and the treatment they receive from everybody is so realistic that the love they find in each other really shines.

Captured Memories really stunned me. Seriously. It's my first story by Katherine McIntyre and I LOVED her writing style!Although this story visits several difficult themes, the author made it somehow light, in a way it wont shock you. It's not a very long story and I'm sure that's the reason so it's so easy to read, but I have no doubt I would love to read an extended version of Zane and Liv love story!Liv's character is one of a kind. Strong, independent, decisive, she will stun you with her sassy mouth and humor. And Zane, well Zane is this sexy, tattooed beast of a man, with a good heart and a better hand in the kitchen. After over a decade, they reunite again after a stranger blind date and finally decide to pursue their attraction for each other. Together they will heal from their demons of the past but not before everything comes crumbling down and defy their individual strength.

"His gaze flashed, the depth of emotion in those green eyes reminding her how far she'd once fallen for him. How despite the easy smile and smooth bravado Zane used to wield, a storm brewed underneath, one powerful enough to sweep her away. The layers between them were too much. She wanted more. Needed him."I absolutely adore stories like this. Undeniably attracted to each other when they were young, yet missing out on a decade due to poor decisions and finding each other again, attempting to pick up the broken pieces. Incredibly sweet and melted me to the floor, high off the romance charts. Not without angst, and real issues to overcome, it made it for a compelling read. All in all a very likable couple that I got lost in and cheering for the way it ended!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!~~~Erika, Book Haven Book Blog

*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC version of this book. My opinions are mine and truthful.*The first book I read by Katherine McIntyre was the first book in her Tribal Spirits series. This one was just as good! Not sure if I’ll read the other Cupid’s Cafe books since they aren’t by her, but I’ll give them a shot. I wish I had read this book sooner. Zane and Olivia are beautiful together. I love second chance romances and this is one of my favorites. I can't stress how emotional I got reading about their story. Read this book, read this series. I'm going to go back and read the others now.

I was given this book to read in exchange for a fair review.2 stars, because it was okay.Plot and my ThoughtsI actually started taking notes a few chapters into this book to keep a record of a few thoughts that went through my head while I was reading this book. I couldn't quite place, at the time, what was bothering me about this book. Also, as a disclaimer, you should know I haven't read the 2 books in this series that preludes this one. But I don't think that really matters. Captured Memories is about two people who believe they are too damaged to ever find someone who would want to have them in their lives. Olivia is suffering PTSD(view spoiler)[ as a result of being raped in her 3rd year of college by a friends she trusted to get her home safely (hide spoiler)]. Zane is an ex-con and a recovering alcoholic loner. Friends in their younger years, they are reunited when they both go to a cafe in response to a random letter they both received. No doubt it was an advertising ploy by the cafe to get people in for Valentine's Day, but that is never fully confined, if memory serves. It's love rekindled at first sight.Liv has always kept her crush on Zane alive through the years. She kept his leather jacket and wears it when she needs to feel safe going out into the world. Zane disappeared after being arrested for something that is not revealed until the last 25% of the book, although you can maybe figure it out if you're paying attention. As I said, there was something about this book that bothered me. For the lack of a better term, I'm going to call it the writing style. The easiest way to sum up my feelings about this book (and show you what I mean) is to show you what I listed as likes and dislikes.LikesNow this quote just goes to show that there is some good writing in this book that totally jived with me..."...the sort that puked Valentine's Day all over the page."How is that not hilariously well said? I wouldn't be able to say it better.I like how the two main characters knew each other as teenagers, and had a bit of a thing going on so the sudden romance now doesn't seem ludicrous. Insta-love is a pet peeve of mine and this relieves a lot of insta-dislike. People who have known each as children and then teenagers before losing contact for a few years falling in love later in life totally works for me.I like the depiction of how much Zane struggles to keep his sobriety, showing what a struggle addiction can be. It's all through the book.Liv's PTSD episodes are, again, well depicted by the author. I love Sampson, Zane's AA...sponsor?The proper term may be eluding me at this very moment. But I like him when he comes out with things like,"and as for me walking away, tough luck, asshole. I didn't invest this much time in you to ditch now." There should have been more Sampson in this book. He seems like an awesome guy.DislikesThe writing style. I could not get over the writing style. At first I couldn't figure out what it was about it...until I realized I was seeing words on a recycle pattern. McIntyre has a thing for words that have to do with fire, storms, and cold.Examples taken from 19 pages of text only: For fire, explosion x2, spark, firework, fire, igniting. For cold, frozen, iced over, tundra, arctic temperatures, ice, thaw, melted, icy depths."The connection sizzled, so electric, so igniting he almost dropped the glass. A mere touch from her lit his veins on fire...""Even though the sun beat down on her with a fiery insistence, she slipped her leather jacket on...(the very next sentence) Despite the heat, Liv's insides plummeted to arctic temperatures."Liv's body does hit 'arctic temperatures' at least twice in this book. It, unfortunately, annoyed me. Perhaps because this books is quite short, so you really notice when things are being recycled by the author.Another thing I disliked enough to write down was about three scenes that were supposed to be hot and heavy, but actually just succeeded in making me think of cannibalism. Recycled...again. In the margins, the first time I wrote about it, I jokingly put "Is Zane a cannibal?" The second time I wrote "OMG Zane, stop wanting to eat Liv's!" and the third time I wrote "Oh God it's catching , now she wants to eat him!" the first quote takes place fully clothed, as they first meet up for a date...if memory, once again, serves."The way she smelled...made him want to sink his teeth into her smooth skin and take a bite""Creamy thighs he wanted to sink his teeth into...""She was dying to sink her teeth into his bronzed skin."Speaking of recycling. Twice nipples are tightened. Multiple times her body acts like she has had way too much caffeine. Twice I winced as Liv moaned over Zane's cooking and Zane's libido got a rise out of it. Another thing is how Liv, at the beginning, is annoyed because a man keeps looking at her boobs (granted he IS annoying her in other ways as well), but when Zane does it 15 seconds after laying eyes on her after 10 years of not seeing her she gets a lady hard-on. I don't know about you, but if I just met an old crush and the first thing he does is stare at my boobs and size me up, I wouldn't be gushing (sorry for the imagery) in my panties for him.How do you not envision glowing eyes complete with wafts of smoke from the corners with this one?"...a smoky glow in her chocolate eyes."In ConclusionIt was okay. It wasn't something I actively tried to read every free second I had, which usually means it can't score over 3 stars in my book. Books that are excluded from this rule are books that are ridiculously well written, which brings me to my last point. I'm not a huge fan of the writing style or the way a lot of words and their synonyms were used over and over again (part of the writing style issue really), which is why it lost another star with me and became a 2 star book. I didn't hate it, it just isn't something I would actively recommend to others or plan to read again. There were a few things I definitely appreciated about hits book, like the showing of how PTSD and addiction can colour and effect peoples lives. The depiction of these two things in such a short (it was short by my standards) story was quite well done. And again, loved Samson. Could have used a lot more Samson.

The struggles the characters face - the hero's alcoholism and the heroine's past rape - and the challenges those issues present to their relationship, are handled well and realistically. I appreciate the heroine standing up for herself with her brother and best friend; this was one of my favorite scenes. I also really like the way their insecurities make them think the other won't want them but how all the way through Liv and Zane push back against the other's trying to disengage, and support each other unquestioningly throughout every obstacle.I normally really love second chance romances and though this one is written well I found myself a little bored as I read it. I also felt like this didn't have the aspects of the second chance trope I prefer. Their past is mentioned fleetingly throughout the book in very general terms but they had a friendship relationship in the past more than anything and their isn't any angst or jealousy or any of those unhealthy emotions I like to read about. Instead it is a healthy portrayal of real-life issues people struggle with everyday and though I do like the way this is handled and believe there is an audience for it - I'm thinking perhaps the seriousness of the issues and the real-life feel of the story in general just didn't provide the escape I look for when reading.
