Instead of washing her eyeballs with bleach, she drank a bottle of tequila and bought a house off the internet. A house far away from her cheating, criminal of an ex-boyfriend. A house in Scotland. As soon as she turns up to claim her new home, Jena finds out exactly why you shouldn't 'one-click' houses while falling-down drunk. It was a dump. With no money, and no skills outside of shaking her booty, Jena does the only thing she can do—she throws herself into the biggest DIY project the Highlands have ever seen. Since Jena’s arrival in town, Officer Matt Donaldson’s workload has tripled. The woman is a menace, gorgeous yes, but definitely a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Her only discernible skill seems to be causing chaos wherever she goes. She attracts trouble like honey attracts bears. Which is why Matt isn't surprised when her ex-boyfriend turns out to be a member of the New Jersey mob. Although Jena’s ex has come to Scotland to win her back, she wants nothing to do with him—a reaction the mobster does not take well. Overnight, Matt’s job morphs from hunting missing cats and breaking up fights at the old folk’s home, to chasing down the mob and keeping Jena alive. And he's trying to do it all while remaining professional enough to keep his hands off his sexy, but crazy, American charge. This is book 4 in the Invertary series, but can be read as a standalone novel. Pre-order now on Amazon!...

She has done it again. I love this one a much as the rest. Well maybe a bit more since I'm totally crushing on Don-Don. He's got it all, the uniform, OCD, the well deserved cocky arrogance, patience of a saint, and all around good guy. I really can't think of a single thing I didn't adore about this book. It really has it all, hysterics, hijinx, shenanigans, all the way to major ugly cries. Janet can do no wrong, lol, other than keep me waiting for the next book. Overall rating: 4 "Princess" stars!Triggers:Cheating: (view spoiler)[ Not between the main characters, but the heroine's ex boyfriend did cheat on her repeatedly(hide spoiler)]Love triangle: (view spoiler)[ No(hide spoiler)]Sex with om/ow: (view spoiler)[ Nope - no intimacy with others(hide spoiler)]Intimate Pasts: (view spoiler)[ Matt (hero): It isn't mentioned, but you know that he is experienced with women because he tells the heroine that he is a good lover and would make sex good for her. Jena (heroine): You don't really know the last person she's been with or how many partners she has had. You just know she is experienced.(hide spoiler)]Ow/om drama: (view spoiler)[ There is drama with the heroine's ex boyfriend. He wants her back, but not truly for romantic purposes. He is an asshole!(hide spoiler)]Push/pull: (view spoiler)[ The hero does the pursuing once he realizes that he has these strong feelings for the heroine. He does not push her away - the heroine is the one who is hesitant, but she has trust issues for a reason(hide spoiler)]HEA: (view spoiler)[ Yes - very cute! :D(hide spoiler)]My review:This was the cutest story about a girl named Jena who moves to a small town in Scotland. She is my kind of woman. You see, she was dating this loser for about 4 years and after everything she did for him (bailing him out of debt multiple times and sticking by him and EVERY STUPID new job idea) she finds out that the new strip club that he is managing? Yeah, you guessed it! He is sampling the merchandise if you know what I mean. Now Jena is a famous Go-Go dancer (which I thought was cute and unique) so what does she do? She sells EVERYTHING, including Frank's (douchey name right?) refurbished old car, takes the money, goes on a holiday in Paris and buys a home in Scotland where she plans to live. So now in Scotland everything seems to be going fine. Even though the home she bought ... is kind of ... well is REALLY a dud, she is having fun fixing it up and meeting the locals. Jena is very beautiful and the men just seem to be falling all over themselves to ask her out. She is such a nice person, that she agrees but with every date comes a new disaster and hence her nickname of Calamity Jena LOL. The sheriff in town and our hero, Matt was getting bored with his job. You see, he is TIRED of getting bogus calls to find one of the local's missing cat, that isn't really missing??? And now that Jena is in town, she is beginning to be a new thorn in his side, even though she is SO beautiful. Matt is definitely busy with his job, but also his dad has Alzheimer's so he is also busy being the man of the house - to his mother and twin sisters. Anywho, like I was saying, Jena is loving life right now - that is until she walks out of the hardware store and sees her ex-boyfriend Frank has followed her to Scotland, but not only that, he has two goons with her. This leads to her claiming "sanctuary" in the local church and the involvement of Matt in her life. Their story was super cute and very low drama/angst. Also, there is a secondary love story of one of the "goons" who really isn't a goon and Matt's sister, Claire. It was SO freaking cute and 100% safe. After reading this book, I could definitely see myself going back and reading a couple of this author's earlier works in this series, but also (pending safety) hopefully reading the next in this series which would be Abby and Flynn. I don't know much about Flynn in this book, but I am hoping it will be safe because it's a single parent romance and those are my favorite. Not to mention, the little girl is SUPER CUTE!!! ;D"Princess," He pulled her to a stop beside the bar. He held her hand in his as she looked up at hime. He hated the anxiety in her eyes. "You look gorgeous." Her eyes softened slightly. He cupped her cheek with his hand. "You take my breathe away."

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author. Janet has done it again! I've been impatiently waiting for this next installment in the Invertary series, counting the days until its release. In this action-filled, laugh out loud rom-com, Invertary is shaken up yet again by a visiting American ex-go-go dancer, Jena. Wherever she goes, it seems, chaos is sure to ensue. Not that she means it to, of course. Unfortunately, her mishaps haven't gone unnoticed by the entire town, and they've given her a catchy nickname: Calamity Jena. There's even a betting board in the town's pub, where pint-drinkers can place bets as to what they think Jena's next catastrophe will be. But when Jena's ex, Frank, shows up in Invertary, determined to get her to go back to America, catastrophe is too mild a word. Now, Jena's life is in danger because of Frank and his goons, and the man who steps up to the challenge of keeping her safe is Invertary's only police officer, Matt Donaldson. Just when small town life is getting to Matt, making him want to move to a bigger city with more action, the gorgeous and danger-unto-herself American has him working overtime as her protector. He has to keep reminding himself that Jena is just a job, especially when his mind wanders--and wonders--thinking about the effects of just being near the accident-prone woman has on him and his libido. Will Matt be able to keep things professional while making sure his charge stays safe? Will Jena be able to stay out of trouble? You'll have to grab a copy of the book yourself to see what happens! ;) It's the perfect summer read, filled with laughs, emotional depth, action, sexy times, and all the crazy townsfolk (we all love) of Invertary. Now, I'll again be waiting impatiently for the next installment of the Invertary series: Bad Boy. I can't wait to see what Janet has planned next for her readers. And I will confess that I'm a huge fan of all of her books and will read anything this woman writes.

The secondary romance was more fun that the main one, but still overall enjoyable.Jena is accident prone. Early in the story local cop Matt says to Jena “men have a tendency to get injured around you.” Another scene had Matt thinking “he’d seen her during the aftermath of many a disastrous date.” All those prior dates and injuries were skipped as if they were a back story I knew nothing about. And I read the previous books. It wasn’t in them. I wish the author would have given us examples or short scenes of that. I felt I was missing part of the story.I loved the secondary romance between Grunt and Claire. Really charming. The main romance is Jena and Matt. It was good. But I was more impressed with the story than the romance. I’m not complaining about the romance. It just wasn’t as much fun as the Grunt and Claire romance.I was impressed the author used NO stupidity.SPOILER Re: no stupidity (view spoiler)[The bad guy kidnaps the heroine twice, and she did nothing stupid to cause it. I liked the smarts of how the good guys followed the bad guys in one of the scenes. (hide spoiler)]I was surprised because so many other authors doing the same scenes would have used stupidity. This author thought it through and did it better.THE SERIES:Book 6 will be published in 2016. Each book is a stand alone romance about people living in the small town of Invertary in the northern Scotland Highlands. Main characters in one book have small roles in other books. My ratings are:5 stars. Lingerie Wars Bk 13 ½ stars. Goody Two Shoes Bk 23 ½ stars. Magenta Mine Bk 3 (novella)4 stars. 4.5 Stars RoundedA break up with her long term boyfriend after his extracurricular activites with the staff members at his new strip club, Jena sold everything, bought a house in Invertary on the internet and flew across the pond to resettle in Scotland after a brief foray in Paris. Now with a house in disrepair, few funds to pay someone to renovate and few DIY skills but a pink toolkit, Jena is struggling to make her place and find a way to support herself in her new home. Enter Frank with two enforcers in charge, Joe and Grunt, and his determination to bring Jena “back home”. Deciding to take refuge in the local church, the town’s only officer, Matt, is sent in to talk her out. When he sees what a state Jena is in, and her belief that the enforcers with her ex Frank are from the New Jersey Mob, he decides to use his friend’s talents and his own stubborn determination to get to the bottom of things. Oh, and provide round the clock bodyguard services for Jena until they get Frank gone. Now, Jena is adorable- with plenty of her own baggage. A mother who was less than ideal, an unknown father, a cheating ne’er do well ex and a huge heart. She’s so against hurting people who are bold enough to ask her out, that she never says no to a first date. Unfortunately, these dates often end in disasters: so much so that there is a running betting board on the ‘next’ disaster to befall one of her dates. While Matt is adorable, he’s also a control freak with an aversion to chaos and a serious interest in Jena. But, no interest in a relationship. But when things go left (and around the corner, down the hill and into a ditch) and the ‘goons’ with Frank actually turn out to be the good guys, Jena and Matt actually have moments to see just how right they are for one another. I really enjoy the playfulness and fun in this series – the touch of humor that is more than offbeat, characters and situations that seem just too out there to be true, until someone is JUST like another you know, you’ll want to read on even if people are wondering why you are laughing. Grab this series for some lighthearted laughs and fun. I purchased a copy of the title for my own library with no expectations of review. All conclusions are my own responsibility. No my favorite book of the series based in this awesome Scottish town but enjoyable nonetheless. The heroine is new inn town and is a disaster when it comes to dating. Our hero Matt is a cop and all around good boy, so when the heroine's ex comes calling he assigns himself as her protector. The romance was the weakest link in this book but I loved everything else, even Grunt and Matt's sister Claire's crazy story.

3.5 Betting Board Stars. This is the fourth book in the Invertary series. Goody Two Shoes is still my favorite, but this one upholds the standard. Jena fled Atlantic City looking for a new life. Well, OK, let’s be honest, she was trying to find somewhere her snake of an ex-boyfriend would never in a million years find her. That’s how she ended up in Invertary. Matt, aka Don-Don, is Invertary’s only police officer and he’s looking to get out. He’s tired of the most exciting part of his day being when he gets to retrieve Morag’s cat from a tree. Jena starts out as a simple bodyguard type assignment and ends up as so much more. He's not sure he'd call it excitement, but it's certainly not boring! Calamity Jena is lighthearted fun and pure entertainment….at Jena’s expense, of course.

There is conflict, but if you're looking for high drama these are not the books for you. Henderson's stories are funny, funny, funny. The scene where the twins run a man off the road is hilarious. There were characters from the other books in the series and for most it would be nice to get another glimpse of them, but it had been a large gap of time since I'd read the other so they were vaguely remembered. Not a distraction to the story, just wish I'd read them closer together because the characters are lovable.

This is a multi part series but this was the first book in the series that I read. I wasn't lost and it is definitely a stand alone work. The story was funny, really moving, and very fast paced. I had to take a break to wipe my tears near the end and also had to apologize to my family for laughing out loud and not sharing the joke with them. Strongly recommend this book, series and author.

No rating I just could not read it but it seems unfair as I've only read about 30 pages to give even a bad rating. I didn't feel I would like the characters and I really felt the book was missing a few chapters at the beginning to understand where the heroine came from.

This is the first book by this author that I've read, and it was really good. Very funny, and well written. After finding her boyfriend otherwise engaged with one of his employees/strippers, Jena does the only thing she can. She sells everything they own, including his very cherry, pristinely restored muscle car, and buys the first house she finds as far from Jersey as she can get. A quaint little town in Scotland. Invertary. Where she quickly becomes the towns entertainment. They have endeared her with the name Calamity Jena. They've taken to placing wagers on her and whichever unfortunate male that goes out with her. But when her ex and his mob connection goons show up in town looking to take Jena back to the states, using any means necessary, it's up to the towns only police officer to ensure her safety. And hopefully not end up in the hospital like the other men who have been near her.I was pleasantly surprised by this book. You never know what you're going to get when you purchase a book without knowing anything about the series or the author. It was well written, the characters are great, and well developed. It was very funny. But when needed it got very serious, and very touching. The only small issue I had with the book was that the author is obviously from the UK, and there was some phrasing and spelling that was a bit different from what I was used to. Once I got used to it, it never interfered with the flow of the story. This is the fourth book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. Previous characters and stories are hinted at, but you don't need to have read them to enjoy this story. I will definitely be getting the rest of the series.

I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!!Janet Elizabeth Henderson knows how to write a hilarious romantic comedy!!!There is humour (Lots of it) and there is loss, lots of love and plenty of mischief. When I found out Matt was getting his story I nearly peed my pants with Glee!!And then she put in Grunt and Claire and I just about fainted. (Yeah that good)I was so involved in Claire and Sams (Grunt) story I didn’t want their time to end, completely delicious and alpha. And Woah Grunt Im thinking I want a piece. And then Matt brings out his skills and Im won over.Matt is calm and in charge being the resident sexy cop he also has that good guy stuff going for him. I loved the take charge attitude he had towards Jena.Jena is great she comes to Invertary with the chance at a new life and get more than she bargained for. She is smarter than she looks and easily works her way into all their hearts. Her family life has been one of sadness but gives her the want to be a part of a real family. His sisters the Hilariously not so Evil Twins Claire and Megan are fantastic in their sibling teasing of Matt. Him being the law and all and them not taking him at all seriously I love it.The breakfast club is beyond hilarious and I love that the male leads in these stories really steal the show. All of the men cameo in this story and its great I love reading them interact with each other. All up a tremendously funny, action packed, love filled installment to the amazing Invertary series. I really loved it and I will most definitely be continuing on with the series. Bring on Flynn!!!!

*** 4.5 HILARIOUS Stars ***First read by this author & OMG Hilarious - the tampons + tights and the whole commando in the mini was LOL funny. And although 4th in a series easily read as a standalone with excellent background provided by the author on the characters and events previous. After 26-yr old Jersey go-go dancer Jena Morgan walks in on her cheating manwhore boyfriend she sells off all their wordly goods [incl his prized and fully restored '66 Chevy Chevelle] and hightails it off to Scotland where she buys a dilapidated fixer-upper intent on starting a new life. But when her cheating ex shows up 4 months later her accident prone life gets far more complicated. He wants her back and uses any and all means to get her.Enter Matt Donaldson, Invertary's only policeman, who takes on the role of Jena's bodyguard and who along with the town's quirky residents take on the American wannabe mobster and his hired goons.A slow-to-build, with a hint of Steamy romance that moves from LOL funny incidents and witty banter exchnages to the more serious and exceedingly sad reality that is Alzheimer's and the devastation it can bring to a family.Flawless writing, amazing follow-through characters, a great storyline with mystery, suspense and a 2-for-1 romance as an added bonus.* 4.5 Stars *

With the help of Matt, the local town cop, and the rest of the town Jena now lives in she's being kept safe for the moment. Sadly CALAMITY JANE was not for me. It wasn't awful but it.. was kind of awful? I don't know. I think maybe I've read too many other novels of a similar tone and plot that are just far more superior. The bar is high in the sexy contemporary genre, especially when it involves a Scot or a Scottish setting. There was a lot of potential but for every good moment it seemed Henderson followed it up by doing something ridiculous or frustrating or just too typical to be enjoyed. I'm pretty sure this was an iBooks freebie, or dollar book, and that's probably why I'm not too upset about the whole thing. That being said I will admit that I have not read the other books in this standalone series and so maybe some of my ambivalence is due to not knowing the side characters -- or it could be that I'm being overly generous about that -- but unlike other forays into this kind of series I'm just going to let the rest of the Invertary books pass me by.

I've read the 1st and 3rd book in this series along with this one. Unless Jena was in the second book then I don't think we ever hear of her until this book. It was a little odd at first since we didn't get to "meet her" when the rest of the town did. I got over that quick though, catching up on her and falling easily in love with her.I only haven't read the second book because it just didn't sound like a plot for me. I may go ahead and read it though because I have really liked all the ones I've read. They are all fun, sweet, and a little kooky. There is also a secondary story here with Grunt and Claire. I really liked it and wished we could have had more alone time with them and got to see more of their relationship grow. Heck I liked them enough that a whole book just for them may not have been enough. Can be read as a standalone.***Also the first in the series is currently free on Amazon kindle. So go get it you lucky ducks.

I bought this book (2 copies - one for me and one for my niece Jena, spelled the "correct" (unusual) way with one "n"). Jena's copy was to be an extra little item in her bag of bridal shower gifts. I was thrilled - it's fate! - when I read the back of the book and found that the love interest's name is "Matt". My Jena's fiancé is named Matt! How perfect is that? So the book endeared itself to me before I even opened it up. Now that I've actually read it, I really liked it. A lot of interesting well-written characters populate this little Scottish town. The book had a number of very good secondary plots and characters that tied well into the main storyline. And I'm so glad I found this book for my niece! Especially fun book title! But besides the personal tie-in, I really was especially pleased that I liked the book; I may just have check out others in the series. (If only the author wrote another book for my other niece Cailin and her brand new husband Shane!).

I went full circle with this book. I laughed and I cried at Jena's misadventures. Rightfully nicknamed "Calamity" Jena escapes to Invertary after she catches her wanna-be mobster BF cheating on her with a siliconed stripper named Candy. After disposing of his assets she funds a trip to Paris and buys an old house in Invertary. She beguiles the local men who literally fall over themselves to date her. The local cop Matt is immune to her charms and views her as a hazard. Then Frank, the ex, steams back into town with a get-her-back plot and 2 Ex-Marine bodyguards and the show begins. Wonderful interplay between the characters. Jenna has never had a loving home and is warmly welcomed by all. Matt learns to let go and live. Nicely balanced subplots; Matt's ailing Dad and sister Claire's romance with one of the hired guns are given the time and space they need. Wonderful.

Absolutely loved this book! It was funny and witty but not cheesy. The characters were so likable and they pulled right into their world. This was not just about Jena, it was about the people in this wonderful town. Claire and Megan had me laughing so hard I was in tears. This is a great read with all things that you like, great people, funny situations, some drama, some suspense, some hot steamy scenes, and some heart wrenching moments. I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you have not read any of the others in this series no worries they read as standalones, and once you read one I bet you want to read more. So do not wait any longer read this one now you will be glad you did.

Perfect, perfect, perfect!!! That's what this book was. Janet Elizabeth Henderson is a master story teller. I have read book one and now this one (on sale for 99¢) and they are A-Maz-Ing!!! The people of Invertary are hilarious! I want to move there and live the rest of my life with friends, family and laughter every day. This book has everything a book is supposed to have, romance, family, friends, possessive men, laughter, tears, crazy ex and crazier town folk.
