waking up in bedlam Reviews
Mia takes her readers into a world filled with rich description and colorful character. You never quite know what is going to happen next and makes you want to keep turning the page. The only reason I put this book down when I started to read it was because work forced me to. Her world building and background never leave you questioning why thing happen. I look forward to reading more, and especially about a certain wolf *sighs*
I found myself eager for more of the world Mia Bishop created in Waking Up in Bedlam long after I finished. The introduction of each character revealed a new and interesting facet to the cleverly intricate storyline, in turn pulling the reader deeper and deeper into the enchantment. Waking Up in Bedlam is an excellent start to a series I will be looking forward to continuing. Especially since, I need to know more about Bastian.
Great, fun read that breathes some fresh air into the paranormal genre. I do enjoy a fun story involving the always interesting fae. Oh, and plenty of hot sex scenes.
4.5 StarsWhat can I say but Wow!! If this type of book is what I am going to get from a new author in her debut novel, there are going to be many great projects from her in the future!! I was quickly swept away in the thrilling plot and into the paranormal world! I loved it and I am keen for more!!Jessa is having dreams of a man… He is gorgeous and certainly knows how to pleasure a woman. She knows that she cannot have him, but will take on any task her King asks of her just to see him. I liked Jessa, she is the kind of girl that will protect what is hers and will do anything for her family. She is pretty selfless, but her priorities soon shift when she meets Ryder in the flesh.Ryder is a paranormal investigator, but believes it is a hoax. He makes a lot of money from it, so continues to do so. His job has put him in danger and soon he is exposed to the paranormal world, everything from fae, witches, ogres to werewolves. His world is turned upside-down in a matter of days. He is a pretty good guy and has lived a troubled but sheltered life, and when his true heritage is unravelled, the action really picks up!What I really loved about this book was the amazing plot! We are quickly drawn into a case that will dig into both characters pasts. Each time a secret was unveiled, I became more excited about the direction of the book. Fae are fun to read about as they are always backstabbing each other, so you cannot trust anyone. But amidst the gripping plot, there is plenty of hot, steamy romance, which had my toes curling. There is a definite connection between these two which cannot be denied! For her debut novel, I think that Mia has done a splendid job. She has created a new world that I enjoyed and am dying to see more of. If I was to pick one negative, it would be how moody the characters appeared in the beginning… hot one minute, cold the next!!I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the plot of this book. It took me away and the characters were amazing. The one thing that I have to rave about though is Mia's ability to crave dialogue. It flows well, it keeps the story moving, and it's not cheesy. That's hard to find in a PNR book. I was privileged enough to receive and ARC of this book and I'm glad I was on the list. The plot has twists and turns that aren't predictable and I love the Fae lore in it. It's clear that Bishop has her own image of the Fae as well as uses elements that we are all familiar with when it comes to their world. (Light and Dark Court, back stabbing, so on so forth.) The relationship between Ryder and Jessa is clear and though Ryder isn't an instant like (don't worry, you learn to like him, that's the point!) he is a great character. Imagine this, he isn't flawless! Neither is Jessa. The sex in this book is well written and hot! Overall Mia did a great job at crafting her debut novel and I urge you to check it out!Review originally posted on SPE blog on Nov 30, 2013: http://theselfpublishingexperiment.bl...
Ms. Bishop weaves such a wonderful spell in this book. The characters are attention getting and unforgettable. The thing I have to rave about though is her ability to create fantastic dialogue and one liners that will stick in your head. Her world building is clear and not confusing in the slightest. She's a master at making sure the details fit together, and leaves you guess in all the right ways. A perfect winter read and a promising first book to the series. I can't wait to read the next one!
MUST READ book that will grab you from the first page, and keep you guessing until the last. Engrossing characters, a rich paranormal plot and wonderful dialogue that never lets the action lag. I thought this was a well-written and fantastic read that I highly recommend to individuals that enjoy romance, mystery, paranormal or just a great book!
**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**I thought this was a great read, fun and exciting and a little different than the average paranormal. While Ryder pretends to be a paranormal investigator, he unknowingly upsets the supernatural world, making him their number one target. Jessa needs some answers for her dilemma but Ryder thinks she's a little crazy and has a hard time believing what's going on. I guess it would be a bit weird to have someone knock on your door and shatter your perception of reality as you know it, but then again it would be totally awesome to go on an adventure, lol. Which as it turns out, Jessa and Ryder go on quite the investigative journey and find out truths long buried and what has been really going on in both worlds. If you're looking for a good fun read, or just something a little different, I definitely recommend this book. I am looking forward to reading the next one.
Mia Bishop’s Waking up in Bedlam is an incredible read and had me glued! Jessa a fae and Ryder a Grimm are bonded. Jessa is trying to help save him from the wrath of her Light King and Ryder hasn’t a clue, at least not at first. The attraction between them is electric! There is romance, mystery, and suspense! The fantasy story is woven well. Small details and clues are dropped from the start building into an eventful climax. I loved the conversation she created between the characters along with their expressions and mannerisms. It made them all unique. The creatures and probability of the fantasy world she creates is believable and fun.
This book has super duper high rating. (I feel like an airhead for just typing that!) Started the book with high expectations and unfortunately they weren’t met. Biggest problem is that Ryder is a phony bologna fraudster. Yuck. No book boyfriend of mind is going to be a cheesy fake psychic. DNF
