reunion the jackson cane adventures Reviews
Reunion: From the Files of the Freak PoliceAuthor: Jarrett RushPublisher: Six to One Books and MediaDate: 2011REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERSSummary:Cops and Monsters may be a game that creepier, horror fan kids play. But when it is happening on the streets...that’s when you call in the Freak Police. The FP chase the things that go bump in the night back into the night and away from John and Jane Q. Public. They walk the night. They protect. They serve. Jackson Cane is on the hunt.Genre:AdventureCrime fictionFictionHorrorPulpQuirkShort storiesUrban fantasyVampiresWitchesWizardsZombiesWhy this book:Came to me as a free teaser. Nice mix of X-Files and CSI.______________________________________________________________________________Favorite Character:Cane is the character that gets the lion’s share of the spotlight here. He comes across as world weary and dedicated to doing the job, even though you get the riff that he hates it...or maybe he just hates the world and everything in it.The Feel:My initial thought on this book may have been slightly missed. The characterization of it being an X-Files/CSI fusion may be wrong. The feel pushes this more in a Dragnet meets low rent Men In Black with some Constantine thrown in and a touch of RIPD. It’s a good fusion.Favorite Scene:The reckless driver stop in the opening. The alleyway climax.Pacing:Great pace.Hmm Moments:Cane’s family history is a helluva twist. His backstory should be awesome. Why isn’t there a screenplay?Could make a great movie.Casting call:Ethan Hawke as Jackson Cane.______________________________________________________________________________Last Page Sound:That was unexpected.Author Assessment:Definitely interested in more of the adventures of Jackson Cane and the Freak Police.Editorial Assessment:Wish this was longer than the teaser that it is. Also, wish this had been read through a few more times by the editor. I found a spot or three where the text was rough and could have been so easily smoothed out.Hmmm...so, not really a teaser, just a short episode. Good stuff.Knee Jerk Reaction:instant classicDisposition of Book:e-BookWould recommend to:friends, colleagues, genre fans______________________________________________________________________________
